Arts Experience at Loyalist

Course Overview: In this one-day workshop, you’ll slow down and spend time really looking at plants and botanical forms, translating what you see into two small botanical studies. Step by step, Marta will guide you through the process, sharing essential drawing and painting techniques, colour mixing, and paint application along the way. As the day unfolds, you’ll build your work gradually, with demonstrations, instruction, and individual feedback supporting you at every stage. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or returning to a familiar practice, this workshop offers a welcoming space to explore, experiment.

Important Notes:

• This course takes place at the Belleville Campus: 376 Wallbridge Loyalist Rd, Belleville, ON K8N 5B9.
• HST is included in the price.
• Campus information, including room number, parking, directions, etc., will be provided closer to the start date.
• A refund (less $20.00 administrative fee) will be issued if you withdraw from a class at least seven days before the start date of the class. After this deadline, no refunds will be issued.
• If a course is cancelled by Loyalist College, registered students will be provided with a full refund. College decisions to cancel a course will be made one week before the start date of the class.

Supply List:

Paints

• Any watercolour paints you may already have

OR

Brushes

• Any watercolour brushes you already have
• #8 or #10 round (plus nay rounds you have)
• #6 Rigger
• 3/4" flat brush
• 1" flat hog hair natural bristle brush (Can use a basting brush from a grocery store)

OR

Paper

• Blank note pad or small sketch pad
• Watercolour paper: 22x 30" 140lbs sheet (you will tear it into small pieces) OR a small/medium sized watercolour pad
• If possible, buy smooth hot pressed watercolour paper, but cold pressed will work as well

MISC

• Water containers (two, large plastic)
• Large mixing palette or white plate
• 8 x 12” painting board/ thin plywood, foam core or masonite
• Painting board approx. 12 x16”
• 1" Masking tape
• Pencil and eraser
• White paper towel

Optional

• Charcoal 4B or 6B pencil
• Tortillon blending stick
• Old facecloth/ placemat for storing brushes in
